A thief was caught red-handed on video trying to sell a stolen bike for £100 – back to the family he stole it from.

The footage was filmed by mum Jemma Shaw, 29, who lured the thief in to her home after offering to buy the bike less than 24 hours after it was taken.

Jemma’s 12-year-old son Alfie Whitby had his beloved BMX stolen from a park close to their home in Cleethorpes on Sunday (August 5).

Mum-of-two Jemma scoured Facebook and saw the thief had listed the item for sale on a local selling site, so she contacted the seller to see if she could have a look at it.

The hapless thief can be heard on the video saying ‘I’ve had it for ages’ after being challenged by Jemma about where he got the bike from.

He is seen trudging into her front room with the bike and she challenges him: “No you haven’t, you stole this yesterday, you’re on video.”

The thief, who was sporting a South Park t-shirt, then says ‘errr, ok then’ before running out the front door.

But it wasn’t all bad news for Jemma and Alfie – who bought the bike for £160 new – as the thief had even fixed his broken back brake.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “We always encourage anyone who has had any property stolen to call us in the first instance and report it.”
