TOP distance runners from across the north of England will gather at Thornes Park on Saturday for the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships.

Wakefield Harriers host the event and home runner Charlene Thomas, winner of the 1500m for Britain in the European Team Championships last year, is set to be amongst the female competitors at what’s expected to be a muddy course owing to the recent poor weather.

Great Britain triathlete Alistair Brownlee, who was crowned world champion last September, and his brother Jonathan, county cross country champion, are also set to race.

A host of Harriers runners old and young will also compete in the various age groups on what’s set to be a busy day of cross country running in Thornes Park.
