DELIGHTED Sharlston Rovers coach Gordy Long insists his side’s great belief led them to BARLA National Cup glory against Fryston Warriors last weekend.
Rovers, who are the first team from Wakefield to win the trophy, had to fight back from 8-0 down early on and 18-16 down with just minutes left to play to lift the prestigious trophy.
And although Fryston pushed them all the way in Blackpool, Long was always confident of success.
“We knew that we had to hold them for the first 20 minutes but they really blitzed us and got the two early tries,” he said.
“We still believed we were the fitter team though and that we would get back into the game.
“We could have had a go at kicking two penalties late on but we believed we could get a try and that’s how it turned out.
“It was an absolutely brilliant day for me, for the players, for the fans that travelled and for the village as a whole.”
