Bresnan was included in England’s 13-man squad for the first match of a highly anticipated series, but has missed out on selection with Middlesex quick bowler Steven Finn chosen ahead of him.

Bresnan hit a century for England in their warm-up match against Essex and has an excellent record at Trent Bridge, but has not been at his best with the ball in his country’s recent matches.

Two of Bresnan’s Yorkshire team-mates, Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow, have been included in the side with Root set to open the batting.
