THE Emerald Isle proved a happy hunting ground for top Wakefield angler Neil Mallinson recently as he returned home with a trio of top-three finishes in highly-acclaimed fishing festivals.

Mallinson, from Durkar, travelled across the Irish Sea for an annual three-week angling tour with friends and enjoyed a successful return of results.

The Wakefield Angling Club member started his tour with an impressive second-place finish at the Gowna Festival thanks to a total haul of 61kg 20g, missing out on the first place prize by just 60 grams.

It got better in the second week as he reeled in 57kg 830g to claim first place in the Arva Festival.

And he completed his top-three treble at the King of Clubs Festival, where he secured a haul of 57kg 610g to finish third overall.

The superb achievements came on the back of a first place finish secured at the annual Stenna Angling Festival held in Northern Ireland in July.
