Former Wakefield FC defender Marc Roberts has signed a three-year contract at Barnsley Football Club after leaving Vanarama Conference side FC Halifax Town.
The 24-year-old Barnsley-born centre-half, who made 46 appearances for the Shaymen this season scoring four goals, joins the Tykes on a free transfer.
Roberts’ career began at Wakefield FC in 2008, winning Directors’ Player of the Season and the most Man of the Match awards in the 2008/09 season along with Players’ Player, the most Man of the Match awards and Supporters Player of the Season in the 2009/10 campaign.
Roberts said: “I wanted to sign for my hometown club and now it is finally here, I can’t wait. I’m happy to get it sorted and I can’t wait to get going.”
The former Wakefield player had attracted interest from a host of Championship sides but elected to join his hometown club when they came calling.
