Carbone’s role with Leeds United confirmed

Former Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford City player Benito Carbone has been confirmed as a new appointment at Leeds United, but only as a consultant and not a coach yet.

A short statement on the club website read: “The club are delighted to announce that Benito Carbone has joined the club in a consultant position and will deal with technical and football operations.

“The former Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday, Bradford City, Derby County and Middlesbrough midfielder will be involved with all football matters, including both the first team and the Academy.”

It is not clear yet whether Carbone will be working with Brian McDermott with owner Massimo Cellino casting doubt on the future of the manager in an interview on television last night when he appeared to question the manager’s decision to take a holiday.

McDermott is believed to have taken a break after attending the League Managers Association’s awards dinner in London on Monday night.

In the absence of McDermott it would seem Carbone’s first job was to finalise a retained list of players for United with Neil Redfearn advising on the young professionals to be kept on.
