Becchio, who signed for the Millers on loan at the end of August, would have been a key figure in the Yorkshire derby with a point to prove to the club that sold him to Norwich in January 2013, but has been ruled out of the game through injury.

The Argentine striker has revealed that he has broken his ankle and is likely to be out of action for three months.

He relayed the news via his Twitter account this morning when he said: “I want to say that I’ve broken my ankle and I’ll be out around three months but I’ll be back more strong...”

Becchio who has scored in Rotherham’s last two home games, previously scored 87 goals for Leeds in 221 appearances between 2008 and 2013.

His injury was confirmed by Rotherham United, who said: “The player was x-rayed straight after the match which showed no damage but a further scan on Friday morning diagnosed the hairline fracture. Our dialogue with Norwich City in relation to the player will continue to ensure we get the player back playing at the earliest opportunity.”
