Leeds United, Huddersfield Town, Barnsley: Football fixtures announced for 2013-14 season

Leeds United will open their 2013-14 Championship campaign at Elland Road against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Football League released the fixtures for the forthcoming campaign on Wednesday morning and the Whites will host the Seagulls on Saturday, August 3 (kick-off 3pm).

Brian McDermott’s men will follow that with a trip to Leicester City the following weekend before hosting Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, August 17.

Other notable fixtures for Leeds include a trip to the seaside to face Blackpool on Boxing Day, while Blackburn Rovers visit Elland Road on New Year’s Day and the Whites host Derby County on the final day of the season, Saturday, May 3.

Leeds’ first West Yorkshire derby against Huddersfield Town will be at Elland Road on Saturday, October 26, with the return fixture at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday, February 1.

The Terriers visit Nottingham Forest for their first match and Town’s first home game will be against former Premier League club Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, August 10.

Town host Derby County on Boxing Day, make the short trip to Burnley on New Year’s Day and visit Watford on the final day of the season.

Barnsley and Huddersfield will first lock horns at Oakwell on Saturday, August 31 and the return fixture takes place on Saturday, March 1.

The Reds will start their campaign on home soil against Owen Coyle’s Wigan Athletic, who will be looking to bounce straight back to the top flight, and visit Blackpool a week later for their first away match.

Bolton Wanderers are the visitors to Oakwell on Boxing Day, while the Tykes visit Birmingham City on New Year’s Day and finish their season at home against Queens Park Rangers.
