The 22-year-old has been unable to make himself a regular since Brian McDermott came in as Whites manager and has made just three appearances in the Leeds first team this season - two at left-back and one as an attacking midfielder.

White will now link up with the League One strugglers in a loan deal that runs until January 1.

Since making his debut as a 16-year-old in August 2008, White has made 102 appearances for Leeds in a variety of positions.

He is new Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough’s first signing and could make his debut at Shrewsbury on Saturday.

Clough told the club website: “We have a heavy programme ahead and someone like Aidy will give us another option and that bit of extra quality.”

White will join former Leeds team-mates Michael Doyle and Neil Collins at Bramall Lane.
