McDermott: Fans can carry Leeds United to success

Leeds United boss Brian McDermott believes the fans’ backing is going to prove important if Leeds United are to continue their recent progress to the end of the season.

Following the end of the Ken Bates era fans are backing the Whites in increasing numbers this season and McDermott is delighted with the support they have given him and his team.

More than 25,000 turned out at Elland Road for the recent home win against Yeovil Town and 3,200 made the trip to Charlton Athletic last Saturday, with the initial allocation selling out in the space of just 20 minutes.

Those fans were rewarded with victories in the last two matches that have turned things round after the Huddersfield Town defeat and if results go right the Whites could climb into the top six when action resumes in the Skybet Championship next week.

“I was proud of the players and the supporters on Saturday,” said McDermott.

“It was amazing behind that goal where our fans were and that’s what you want to try and create.

“You want that camaraderie and that’s was great.”

Leeds now have a weekend off before resuming against Middlesbrough at Elland Road on Saturday, November 23 when United are hoping for their first 30,000 crowd since the opening day of the season.
