New boy Adeyemi adds to Leeds United midfield options

Tom Adeyemi, in action against Leeds United last season, up against the now departed Rudy Austin.

The deal for the 23-year-old has been made with a view to a permanent transfer next summer.

The six foot one youngster has played previously under Leeds head coach Uwe Rosler at Brentford and will strengthen midfield options following the loss of Luke Murphy to injury.

Murphy will miss the start of the season after undergoing surgery and will be out of action for up to seven weeks.

New signing Adeyemi started his career at Norwich City and spent time on loan at Bradford City, Brentford and Oldham Athletic before joining Birmingham City in 2013.

Cardiff signed him a year ago for a fee believed to be more then £1 million, but his opportunities became more limited after the sacking of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Fans rated him, however, and there has been an angry reaction from Cardiff supporters to news of the loan deal.

“I’m really happy to be here. It’s a great opportunity for me,” said Adeyemi.

“I’m glad it’s all gone smoothly and I’m just looking forward to getting out there and getting the season started.

“I first heard it was a possibility last week and over the weekend it became clear that it could happen.

“Cardiff said they were happy for it to happen and at that point it was an easy decision for me to get on the motorway.

“My agent spoke to a few clubs once it became clear Cardiff would be letting me go out on loan.

“But with Leeds being a massive club and the manager being here and having worked with him before, it was the perfect club to come to.”

Adeyemi’s arrival follows goalkeeper Charlie Horton, defender Sol Bamba and strikers Chris Wood and Lee Erwin as United additions this summer. So far only Rodolph Austin, Stuart Taylor and Aidy White from last year’s first team squad have left.

Leeds boss Rosler is still in the market for at least one more player with a winger his priority now as he looks to add some pace up front.

Brazilian Raphael Martinho is the latest player to be linked with a move to Elland Road.

Leeds are in action in a pre-season friendly at York City tomorrow night when they are set to field several first teamers while their under 21s play at Tadcaster Albion with both matches kicking off at 7pm.
