The draw, made in Hull tonight, paired the Whites with the Black Cats, managed by former Leeds coach Gus Poyet, with the tie to take place over the weekend of January 3 at the Stadium of Light.

The tie will bring back memories of a previous cup final at Wembley between the two teams in 1973 when Sunderland famously won 1-0 with an Ian Porterfield goal and their goalkeeper, Jim Montgomery, made one of the most famous saves in the history of the competition to deny Peter Lorimer.
