Zaliukas goes with more to follow at Leeds United

Leeds United’s aim to have a leaner squad is taking further shape with news that they have confirmed that the contract of Marius Zaliukas has been terminated by mutual consent.

The Lithuanian international defender had one year left on his contract with the Whites, but is now free to look for a new club ahead of the new season.

Zaliukas, who signed for the club initially on a trial basis in October 2013, made 15 league appearances for United during the 2013-14 Championship season.

He was left out of the squad that travelled for pre-season training to Italy on Monday, along with Ross McCormack, Paddy Kenny and injured duo Alex Mowatt and Scott Wootton.

Leeds are also believed to have told left-back Stephen Warnock that he is free to find himself another club, although he has 12 months left on his contract and goalkeeper Kenny is set for talks on his future.

Meanwhile, winger Cameron Stewart, who was to sign for United as part of the terms of his loan agreement, has now joined Ipswich Town.

Stewart started nine games for the Whites last season, but failed to impress.
