MANCHESTER City U18s defeated Inter Milan 2-0 in the United Arab Emirates to win the Al Ain Junior International tournament with a 100 per-cent record.
Normanton defender George Swan was selected for the Citizens in their final game of the tournament and, having already defeated UAE, Valencia and Al Ain, the young City side needed only a point to win the championships.
Swan, 17, had marked his return from a knee injury with his first start of the year in the 2-1 success over domestic giants Al Ain and the former Leeds United prospect kept his place in the City defence for the decisive clash with Inter.
Albert Rusnak’s strike on the half-hour broke the deadlock at the Khalifa bin Zayed Stadium and although they bossed proceedings throughout, the English side had to wait until nine minutes from time when Bulgarian Serafim Mihailov settled matters with a second goal.
Swan, son of former Leeds United player Peter, will now turn his attention to bolstering City’s bid to lift the FA Premier Academy League title. They need four points from their final three games to win their group and book a place in the play-off semi-finals.
