WAKEFIELD FC have made wholesale changes to their management team and playing staff in light of the financial troubles suffered at the Evo-Stik Premier League club.

Steve Nicholson has left his role as player-manager to join Farsley FC, while assistant Will Ryder has joined Newcastle Town. They’ve been replaced by Mark Brier, who takes charge as first team general manager, Tsuyoshi Takano, who joins as first team manager and Darren Attwood, who will be assistant manager.

First team players including Tom Denton, Wes Milnes, James Stansfield, Danny South and Paddy McGuire have also left the Bears for pastures new.

The club’s first-team squad had agreed to play for two weeks without being paid any wages to help the club in its search for financial help. But with none forthcoming, the majority of the squad has now left Stade France.

The new management trio bolstered the Bears’ squad with at least 12 new players before the weekend clash at Mossley, including former players Ashley Brooke and Arran Horton.

But they got off to the worst possible start on Saturday with a 6-0 reverse at Mossley in Evo-Stik Division 1 North.

There were better fortunes for Ossett Albion as they secured their second league win in three matches with a 2-1 victory at Trafford.

Michael Oates gave the hosts a 57th-minute lead before Dale Kelly levelled for Albion ten minutes later.

Doran Jordan hit Albion’s winner with 12 minutes to go to give the Warehouse Systems Stadium club a big win.

Ossett Town will be in the hat for today’s FA Trophy first round draw after Phil Sharpe’s men held Blue Square Bet North side Solihull Moors to a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

Lee Garside was Town’s hero with a last-minute penalty which saw the Stade France side secure a replay on home soil on Tuesday night (kick-off 7.45pm).

Lee Morris had fired the hosts in front before Niall O’Brian levelled just six minutes later.

Junior English scored to put Moors back in front with 14 minutes to go before Garside’s dramatic late equaliser.
