OSSETT Albion moved to within one victory of the FA Cup First Round Proper on Tuesday night thanks to a slender 1-0 win over Hinckley United in a Third Qualifying Round replay at Dimple Wells.

Kurtis Noble’s 31st-minute strike was enough for a well-organised and spirited Albion against their Blue Square Bet North opponents.

The hosts, who welcomed Hinckley back to WF5 thanks to a 2-2 draw in Leicestershire on Saturday, had to defend well early on as Hinckley came flying out of the traps.

Aaron Cole and Harvey Headley both had good early chances for United but Albion weathered the early storm from their visitors and grew stronger as the game progressed.

Darol Lucas had a great chance to fire the hosts ahead but fluffed his lines when one-on-one with the goalkeeper but the Evo-Stik Division 1 North side didn’t have to wait too long for the opener.

It came through Kurtis Noble, who cut inside just after the half-hour mark and smashed a fine shot beyond Hinckley stopper Robert Peet for what turned out to be the decisive goal.

Hinckley had plenty of the ball in the second half but didn’t make Albion goalkeeper Jody Barford work too hard to keep his side’s lead in tact.

The hosts looked to use the counter-attack to seal their progression and it almost worked as Joe Fox saw a curling effort well saved by Peet and Tom Corner blazed the rebound over.

They didn’t need a second goal and Albion will now travel to Bradford Park Avenue in the final qualifying round on Saturday, October 20.

In Evo-Stik League Division 1 North neighbours Ossett Town shared the spoils in a ten-goal thriller against Garforth Town at Stade France.

Shane Kelsey scored a hat-trick and Mark Whitehouse also scored twice in a see-saw 5-5 draw.

Wakefield FC had a night to forget at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium as they slumped to a 5-0 defeat against Farsley FC.
