Ossett Town U10s fall short at Festival of Football

Two teams from Ossett Town made the trip to North Wales last weekend as they finished as runners-up in the ESF Festival of Football tournament.

Both the under 8s and under 11s travelled to Pwllheli over the Bank Holiday, as the under 11s narrowly missed out on the title in their last game.

The team of Stephen Hosty, James Ferguson, Jacob Nash, Lewis Stephens, Keiran Stephenson, Bradley Graham and Ewan Broadbent lined up against five other teams from Wales and England in the Festival, narrowly missing out to Dolgellau in the league format.

The boys made the perfect start on Saturday with a 5-0 demolition of Bro Hedd Wyn FC, Broadbent, Stephenson, Stephens, Ferguson and Nash all on the scoresheet.

They followed that up with a narrow 1-0 victory over Liverpudlians Shore Villa FC, Stephenson again finding the back of the net as two Ossett players picked up injuries that were to hamper them for the remainder of the competition.

Next up was a crunch match with eventual champions Dolgellau. Despite having the best of the openings, Ossett squandered numerous chances, and a clinical Dolgellau stole a 2-1 win to leave themselves in a strong position overnight.

On Sunday, Ossett dropped more points with a dour 0-0 draw against Bro Enlli FC. However, the boys were boosted when they heard that Dolgellau had lost their match.

This meant the title was still up for grabs in the final game, Ossett needing a win coupled with a Dolgellau defeat to lift the trophy.

Town did their bit, easing past Penrhyndeudraeth Juniors 3-0 thanks to strikes from Stephens, Nash and Graham, but a win for Dolgellau meant the Welsh side took the crown as Ossett were forced to settle for second in a highly enjoyable tournament.
