OSSETT Albion enjoyed the perfect preparation for Easter Monday's derby with Ossett Town by recording their biggest win of the season on Saturday.
Freescoring Albion romped to a 6-0 victory over Evo-Stik Division 1 North basement dwellers Cammell Laird at the Warehouse Systems Stadium to all-but secure their safety.
The hosts had to wait until the 37th minute to make the breakthrough when Joe Fox smashed home from the penalty spot.
But goals came at regular intervals on the resumption as Tom Corner doubled Albion's lead three minutes into the second half and Doran Jordan made it 3-0 just minutes later. Alex Booker added a six-minute hat-trick, the last coming from the spot, to complete a memorable day for Albion.
Victory also saw them close the gap on neighbours Ossett Town ahead of Monday's derby clash at Stade France (kick-off 3pm). If Albion win they'll go above Eric Gilchrist's side on goal difference.
Town suffered a 2-0 defeat at Warrington Town on Saturday. Michael Jackson put the hosts ahead six minutes into the second half before a Ryan Laight own goal 16 minutes from time ensured the visitors returned to West Yorkshire with nothing to show for their efforts.
Wakefield FC remain in the Division 1 North relegation spots but they battled hard and lost by a single goal against leaders AFC Fylde at Stade France.
Richard Allen's 19th-minute strike proved enough for the visitors and left the Bears two points away from safety.
Paul Lines's men face another tough task on Monday when they travel to promotion-chasing Farsley FC (kick-off 3pm).
