Wakefield FC were the only district winners on the opening day of the new Evo-Stik Premier League season.
The Bears travelled to Radcliffe Borough in Division 1 North on Saturday and secured their first three points of the season at the first time of asking thanks to Harrison Blakey’s 66th-minute strike.
Ossett Albion were seven minutes away from bagging their own three points but two late goals gave Bamber Bridge a 3-2 win at Dimple Wells in a see-saw encounter.
Alistair Waddecar have Bridge an eleventh-minute lead but Ryan Harrison levelled for the hosts in the 72nd minute and eight minutes later Dale Kelly looked to have given Albion the victory.
But Matthew Mahoney and Andrew Bell scored late on to inflict defeat on Richard Tracey’s men in their season opener.
Neighbours Ossett Town suffered defeat by the same scoreline at Prescot Cables.
Jimmy Eyles gave Town the perfect start with a goal inside five minutes and hit a second with nine minutes left to get the visitors on level terms after Cables had turned the game on its head.
But David Dempsey struck his second of the afternoon two minutes later to give Cables all three points.
Nostell MW were in FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round action on Saturday and they bowed out with a 2-1 defeat at Barton Town Old Boys.
Danny Critchlow grabbed a late goal for Welfare but it was too little too late.
