Wakefield FC look to untangle Prescot Cables and edge closer to safety

WAKEFIELD FC face a crucial visit to Prescot Cables tonight (kick-off 7.45pm) and they could secure their Evo-Stik League Division 1 North status.

Victory for the Bears and a failure to win for Harrogate Railway Athletic, who face promotion-chasing Farsley FC, would all-but seal Wakefield’s ‘great escape’ from relegation.

The Bears lead Railway, who occupy the final relegation spot, by a point going into the final two matches of the season but have a much better goal difference.

It means a three-point lead going into the final match of the season at the weekend would be enough for Wakefield to escape the drop, barring a huge turnaround in goals.

Wakefield will be in confident mood going into tonight’s match thanks to their huge 1-0 win over Harrogate at the weekend.

And even if they don’t seal their Division 1 North fate tonight, Wakefield will fancy their chances of victory on Saturday when they host basement side Cammell Laird.
