Wakefield FC prove a point to edge closer to safety

WAKEFIELD FC edged closer to Evo-Stik Division 1 North safety on Tuesday night thanks to a 1-1 draw at Prescot Cables.

The point, coupled with Harrogate Railway Athletic suffering a 3-1 home defeat against Farsley FC, moves the Bears two points clear of the relegation zone with a game to play.

Daniel Clapham gave Wakefield a 36th-minute lead before Cables levelled through Steven Tames with 20 minutes to go.

Paul Lines and his men are likely to just need a point from Saturday’s home game against Cammell Laird to retain their Division 1 North status, owing to a much better goal difference than Harrogate.
