Wakefield FC suffered an early cup exit for the second time in four days as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at Lincoln United in the Doodson Sport Cup.

The Bears went down by the same scoreline against New Mills in the FA Cup on Saturday and could not pick themselves up against their Evo-Stik Division 1 South opponents in Tuesday night’s preliminary round clash.

Simon Mowbray scored both Lincoln goals as Paul Lines and his Wakefield side suffered a third defeat on the spin after going unbeaten in their opening three matches of the campaign.

The competition will not be high up on the agenda for the Rapid Solicitors Stadium club but Lines will now be keen for his side to end their losing streak at Kendal Town in Saturday’s league match.

Things appear to be getting no better at Nostell MW since the departure of long-serving boss Alan Colquhoun with Welfare suffering a 5-0 home defeat against Retford United in Northern Counties East League Division 1 on Tuesday night.

The result leaves Nostell rock-bottom and the only side without a point to their name so far this season owing to defeats in every competitive fixture.

Reece Thompson and Liam Wilkin put Retford 2-0 up at half-time before the pair added another goal apiece on the resumption and Lee Holmes wrapped-up the rout with ten minutes to go.
