Wakefield's Duane Holmes ready to give his all at Huddersfield Town

The American-born player moved to Wakefield from the US state of Georgia when he was four-years-old.

As a junior he played for local clubs Normanton Athletic and Kellingley Welfare before moving to the Huddersfield academy at Under-9 level.

The 26-year-old made his professional debut in 2013 but left West Yorkshire after 26 appearances in search of more game time.

He has spent the last four years at Scunthorpe United and Derby County but is now looking to give his “best years” to the Terriers.

“I can’t wait to give my best years to Town,” Holmes told Huddersfield Town TV.

“I think the fans are going to be happy with the player they see now because I don’t think I fulfilled my potential when I first came through.

“I was disappointed to leave but I am buzzing to be back.”

He continued: “I can help the younger players massively because I came through with a lot of good players.

“I know what it takes to get into this team and stay in this team.

“I didn’t do that enough but I am looking forward to passing it onto the younger lads because there is a great bunch of young lads here.

“There is a lot of talent and hopefully I can point them in the right direction.”

The USA international had been eyeing a move back to West Yorkshire and revealed he spoke with Huddersfield’s head of football operations, Leigh Bromby, about a return after a fixture between the Terriers and Derby.

He said: “I grew up here and I still feel like I’ve got so much to give to this football club. I’m happy that I’ve got the chance to do it.

“I’m really looking forward to working with the head coach. A couple of months ago Derby played Huddersfield Town in a behind-closed-doors game and I didn’t have to play, but I wanted to play because I wanted to come here and kind of drop it into Brombs (Leigh Bromby) that I wanted to come back.

“So, I played in that game and I spoke to Leigh and since then we’ve been working to try and get it done.”

Holmes is excited by the potential of Huddersfield Town under head coach Carlos Corberan and believes the Terriers can put together a strong play-off bid next season.

“There is a lot of football to play this season,” he added.

“If we don’t make the play-offs this year then we can make a really good go of it next year and I want to be a part of it.”

He feels he has made the most of his time away from the club and has promised to “give everything” on the pitch.

“I think I’ve matured a lot, both as a footballer and as a person,” he continued.

“Hopefully I’ve not changed too much, I still want to be an exciting player to watch and stuff like that!

“I want to bring goals to the team, and I want to help the team out in any way I can. I know I’ll give everything for the shirt.”
