A DAZZLING display from veteran bowler Malcolm Hazell gave Calder Grove’s A team the edge over their second string club-mates in Section E of the Arrow Self Drive Huddersfield Central League last weekend.
The 71 year-old from Crigglestone returned eye-catching figures of 7-4 to bowl out Calder Grove B for just 65 - a total that the A team easily eclipsed with 69-1.
Hazell’s figures were even more remarkable given that he was restricted to 12 overs, in which he bowled no fewer than nine maidens.
He said: “I have taken nine wickets before and 7-7 but this is certainly my best performance recently.
“I only conceded four singles and when I reached 12 overs the umpire told me that he was sorry that he had to stop me because I would have taken all 10 wickets.”
Hazell, who also claimed a caught and bowled within his haul, is celebrating his 46th year at the club.
He said: “I am still enjoying my cricket and I will only pack it in when I stop enjoying it.”
