With only five games remaining, Sandal’s push for promotion from National 3 North is reaching a critical stage of the season.
The Milnthorpe Green men protected their 100 per-cent home record with a hard-fought come-back 24-20 win against Billingham last weekend and they will be hoping for more success tomorrow, Saturday, when they visit Birkenhead Park.
The game, rescheduled after snow forced its postponement in January, is an important one for third-placed Sandal as they look to stay in touch with league pace-setters Chester and Harrogate.
Jim Kilfoyle’s men beat the Wirral side 66-14 last October but the heavy conditions at Upper Park could suit the heavy home pack.
Sandal centres Mark Pease and Joe Allott are out through injury while number eight Sam Whittingham is unavailable.
Flanker Jonny Gatus and prop James Purcell return to the squad however.
Sandal squad v Birkenhead Park (away, kick off 3pm): T Coad, J Ellar, A Orr, D McCormack, D Martin, S Frewin, G Wood, M Whittingham, G Newman, L Norbury, J Heron, R Norbury, J Purcell, A Thompson, J Stewart, J Gatus, J Briscoe, S Maguire.
