CLECKHEATON Boxers have taken their tally of successes to nine out of 10 with three more wins, including a finalist and semi-finalist at the Yorkshire Senior Novice Championships.

At the Empress Ballroom in Mexborough, Ben Hargreaves of Shaw Cross eased his way into the Yorkshire novice final when he earned a unanimous win over Callum Hancock of the Unity Club in Sheffield. The final is in Mexborough on November 11.

At the same championships, Cleckheaton’s Jordan Schofield, who had won all his previous four bouts was in action in the quarter-finals of the Class A category for boxers who have fought fewer than 10 times.

He came up against the more experienced Paul Dean of Bridlington who had a record of seven wins out of nine. Schofield breezed into the semi-finals earning a deserved unanimous decision. The semi-finals are being held on Wednesday.

Last Sunday another top Cleckheaton prospect, cruiserweight Ashley Vansie appeared on a show in Liverpool under the watchful eye of head coach Keith Tate.

He earned the club’s third unanimous decision of the week against Kevin Ward of the Rotunda Club.
