Greater Manchester county player Andrew Buckley was crowned 2013 Sandal Classic champion on Sunday.
The Chadderton player beat Sheffield’s Ryan Clark 21-10 in the final to take home the winner’s trophy and the £1,000 cash prize.
The Finals proved an eventful affair in front of a packed house in glorious weather.
There was an early shock when defending champion Gary Ellis, of Whitefield, bowed out with a 21-11 loss against Leeds player Mark Hughes in the last 16.
Buckley saw off Dean Ferris in the opening round 21-16 before edging out Hughes 21-18 in the quarter-finals.
Audenshaw’s Graeme Wilson was next to suffer at the hands of Buckley in the semi-finals, while Clark booked his final date thanks to a 21-19 victory over Callum Wraight.
Buckley played the longer marks well to maintain control throughout the final and eventually seal an emphatic win.
Clark took home the £450 runners-up prize with £3,020 paid out in total.
