Wakefield diving star Alicia Blagg has claimed Great Britain’s first springboard European Championships medal in more than 50 years.
The 16 year-old competed in individual and synchronised events at the championships in Rostock, Germany, last weekend and it was in the 3m springboard synchronised final that she claimed a bronze medal.
In partnership with Rebecca Gallantree, Blagg posted excellent marks from the required rounds and went into the final rounds in a strong position.
Their highest scoring dive, a front two-and-a-half somersaults, one twist piked, came in the third round and boosted their score to a total of 292.17.
Sunday’s medal was a superb way to end the weekend and a delighted Blagg said: “I am happy overall with my performances this week. Our [synchronised] preliminaries performance was really good.
“I am a little disappointed with a couple of my individual dives but I know I have so much more in me.”
