Pugneys Pirates had the wind firmly in their sails when they extended their lead at the top of the RYA North Zone Team15 Inter-Club Championships at the weekend.

The young Pirates team travelled to North Lincs and Humberside Sailing Club for the second round of the event and enjoyed another good day on the water.

Teams from across the RYA North Zone met at the venue and Pugneys followed up their opening-round success by taking the round two title as well.

Pirates won the 5.8m and 6.8m classes to ensure their round victory but it was not all plain sailing, with the 3.5m and 4.5m classes going to rivals the Kielder Kestrels from Northumberland.

Jacob Collett ensured victory for the Wakefield club in the 5.8m class, with second place going to Joe Carter.

Joe Thompson took first place in the 6.8m class, with brother and sister duo Oliver and Fiona Anderson coming in second and third place respectively.

Pugneys will be looking to take their top form in to round three of this year’s competition, which takes place at Kielder Water in Northumberland on Sunday, July 14.

And they will be looking to move a step closer to winning the championship and moving on to represent the North Zone in the National Final, the Team15 Champions Cup.
