Pugneys Pirates will be looking to cement their place at the top of the Team15 Championship when they travel to the Humber next weekend.

The windsurfing team will go up against North Lincs Invaders, Derwent Devils and Coquet Crushers when they meet at the North Lincs and Humberside Sailing Club on Sunday, June 16.

Reigning RYA North Zone Team15 Inter-Club Champions Pugneys won the first round of the competition last month when the fleets met at Derwent Reservoir.

Team15 Ambassadors Joe Thompson and Fiona Anderson took first and second place respectively as the Pirates topped the leaderboard.

They will now look to consolidate their position with a similar victory at the event on Father’s Day, in what should be an exciting event.

NLHSC are celebrating their Diamond Anniversary and the North Lincs Invaders will be desperate to celebrate with a home victory.

The Invaders finished second in the first round and will be hoping to carry that form into next weekend’s race on their home course.

But Pugneys looked in ominous form as they took the spoils at the first round in Derbyshire, as they aim for a third straight North Zone title.

The Pirates have been at every event since 2006, but began dominating the event from 2011, and will be favourites to make it three in a row this time round.

Scores are awarded to the teams based on where each of their members finishes, and the team with the highest cumulative score after the four rounds will be crowned North Zone champions.

The champions from each of the Zones will then go on to face each other in the Team15 Champions Cup later this year to decide the overall national champions.

The Pirates topped the leaderboard in every round last year, and were also impressive at the national finals at Pitsford Reservoir in October, battling hard to a third-place finish in the event won by Kent team Hythe Hotshots.

Team15, now in its 12th year, was introduced by the Royal Yachting Association to encourage more youngsters of all abilities to take part in windsurfing.

Competitors are all aged 15 or younger and take part for their local side.
