Sandal staged a brave second-half fight back to defeat Stockport 17-16 in National 3 North.
The visitors stamped their authority on the game with 11 minutes gone courtesy of Jamie Anthony’s try and Josh Longmore’s conversion.
Ian Jackson opened Sandal’s account with a penalty only for Stockport to respond with two Longmore penalties to go 13-3 up.
Sandal refused to give in and man of the match Luke Norbury powered over, Jackson adding the extras, before Stockport established a 16-10 advantage on the hour through Longmore’s penalty.
Winger Sam Chitabura ended a spell of sustained Sandal pressure to go over in the corner and Jackson bagged the touchline conversion to give the hosts the lead for the first time.
Stockport had the chance to edge ahead in the dying minutes but missed a penalty, much to the relief of the home fans.
