National 3 North leaders Sandal have recruited Kiwi centre Kieran Moffat as they look to maintain their push for the league title.

After the postponement of last weekend’s trip to Rossendale, Sandal will kick-off the new year on Saturday when they welcome Billingham to Milnthorpe Green.

And their latest recruit Moffat, 25, could make his debut for the Wakefield team, subject to him gaining clearance to play.

Moffat, from Oamaru, has played ten times for Otago in the ITM Cup, the highest level of New Zealand domestic professional rugby union and one level below the Super 15s in the southern hemisphere.

Last year, Otago finished sixth in the ITM Cup Championship and Moffat has been snapped up by Sandal as he combines rugby with travelling during the close season.

Moffat is close friends with Sandal winger Simon Frewin and attended his wedding to club physio Alice Gray over Christmas.

Sandal are without winger Gareth Newman and centre Dave Martin for the visit of Billingham, who pushed the table toppers all the way last September before losing out 39-34.

A home defeat to Sale on September 6 remains the only game this season that Sandal have failed to win and they have won their last 13 outings.
