Tom Sprott has stepped down as first team head coach at Ossett RUFC.
Sprott announced his decision shortly after Ossett’s 15-10 loss at Knaresborough in Yorkshire League Division Four on Saturday.
In a statement published on the club’s website, Sprott said: “It is with sadness and regret that I have stood down as first XV coach.
“After five years of coaching the team, it’s time for a fresh voice, strategy and ideas. I think there is a law of diminishing returns with any rugby coach and a shake-up will only be good for the club in the long term.
“I wouldn’t leave unless I knew I had someone to hand it over to who would do a great job. Steve Dykes will continue and will be joined by Joe Rotchell and Mark Stuart in a ‘new look’ coaching team.
“Thanks to everyone for their help and support whilst I’ve been at Ossett. The players and committee has been very open and prepared to embrace new ideas I have had.
“It’s been an honour and a pleasure to coach at such a great club. I’m only sorry I couldn’t help Ossett to a promotion in that time - it certainly wasn’t through any lack of effort from me or the players.”
Ossett host Skipton on Saturday.
