Slazenger boys U10s underlined they are the best team in their age group in the county by winning their second tournament of the season in the Yorkshire Youth Hockey League’s top division.
They won four matches at Weetwood without conceding a goal and ensured they finished top of the division by earning a draw with Ben Rhydding in the last match of the day. Goalkeeper Aidan Coughtrey had little to do until he played his part in securing a point against Ben Rhydding.
New player James Sanderson did well in various positions and Matthew Royston and Fraser Cass completed a solid defence.
Slazenger beat Doncaster 4-0 with goals from Will Gascoigne (two), Charlie Bland and Tommy Randle, who was easily the side’s most improved player.
Gascoigne and Alex Stacey netted in a 2-0 win against Leeds and Gascoigne and Randle sealed a 2-0 victory against York.
Bland (two) and Randle were the scorers as Wakefield were beaten 3-0, leaving Slazenger needing only to avoid defeat against Ben Rhydding to finish top of the section. This they did courtesy of Bland’s fourth goal of the day in a 1-1 draw.
