Wakefield Harriers’ Martyn Bernard has finished fifth in the Commonwealth Games men’s high jump final, in Glasgow.

Bernard started well and cleared 2.21m at his first attempt but three failures at 2.25m put him out of the race for medals.

England team-mate Chris Baker finished fourth while Canada’s Derek Drouin won gold with a leap of 2.31m.

Cyprus’ Kyriakos Ioannou took silver with 2.28m and Canadian Michael Mason claimed bronze with 2.25m.
