Nominate your pupils to ride in the Tour de Yorkshire

Schools can nominate their pupils to ride in the final stage of the first ever Tour de Yorkshire.

The world’s top cyclists will start the third stage of the event in Wakefield on Sunday, May 3.

The riders will take part in a ceremonial start in Northgate and outside Wakefield Cathedral before the official start at 12.30pm at the junction of Agbrigg Road and Barnsley Road (A61).

And schools can nominate pupils, aged nine to 11-years-old, to cycle the one kilometre ceremonial lap in the city centre.

Coun Les Shaw, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “I’m sure the Tour de Yorkshire will be a fantastic event.

“It is great that young people will have this once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of this very special sporting event.”

Around 50 pupils will be given T-shirts to keep and some will be interviewed on the same podium where the riders will be introduced to the crowd.

Their cycle ride will start about 15 minutes before the Tour riders.

Schools in the district have been sent information on how to nominate pupils and the closing date is Friday, April 17.

The Tour de Yorkshire will take place on May 1-3.
