MIRFIELD Parish Cavaliers A closed to within a point of leaders East Ardsley A as the Central Yorkshire League Division Three title race hots up.

Ardsley picked up two points as their game last Saturday at Westwood Park was called off due to rain while Parish A won by two wickets at home to Liversedge A.

Scholes A are fourth, 12 points off top spot, after a three-wicket loss at third-placed Carlton A.

Hunslet Nelson A lost by six wickets at home to Wakefield St Michaels A and are are two points further back in fifth place.

Javed Ahmed (57) and Russell Beal (30) helped Nelson A reach 196-8.

Aqash Aurangzeb then took 2-33 but St Michaels A eased to 197-4 in 45 overs with David Atkinson top scoring on 87.

Moorlands A bagged their fifth league win of the season by 129 runs against bottom-club Gildersome A.

The hosts set a challenging total of 226-9 as Stephen Auty top scored with 42. Mark Battye hit 40, Arshad Ali 37 and Adam Roberts 31 as Badru Patel ended with fine figures of 5-45 in 13 overs and Hanif Mansoor claimed 2-29.

Patel (27) and Philip Wiggins (24) were the only batsmen to make an impact as Gildersome A were dismissed for 97 in 28 overs. Oliver Rounding impressed with 5-31 in eight overs with three maidens, while Ian Lay took 2-25 and Roberts 2-24.

Hopton Mills A extended their lead in Division Four with a quickfire eight-wicket success at Netherton A.

Mills A head the table by nine points from Caribbean A who lost by 34 runs at home to Westwood Park A, and are 11 clear of third-placed Oulton A who suffered a 108-run defeat at Adwalton A who stand fourth, 12 points behind the leaders.

A terrific effort saw Adwalton A post 278-6 before visitors Oulton A were dismissed for 170.
