Agar praises ‘terrific’ Wakefield Wildcats crowd

RICHARD Agar was full of praise for a bumper crowd that watched his Wakefield Trinity Wildcats side beat Catalans Dragons 32-22 at a sun-drenched Rapid Solicitors Stadium on Sunday.

A crowd of 7,254 saw Wildcats bag their first home win of Super League XVII - a figure 2,693 up on the same match last season.

“I thought it was a terrific crowd,” he said.

“It was a lovely summer’s day with just short of 8,000 fans here. Obviously pretty much all of them were Wakefield [fans], I thought it made for a terrific atmosphere.

“Both as a team and as a club we’re really progressing.”

Wildcats fans packed on to the newly-roofed North Terrace to back their side. The attendance took Wakefield’s average gate for the season so far to an impressive 7,898.

Crowds at previous home matches against Hull KR, Bradford Bulls and Huddersfield Giants were all up on the same fixtures last term.

Wakefield’s next game is the big local derby against Castleford Tigers on Good Friday, April 6 (kick-off 7.30pm) and the club is hoping for their first sell-out since the ‘Million Pound Match’ between the sides in 2006.

Tickets are on sale now and cost from £20 adults and £12 juniors and concessions.
