Amor: Wildcats owe Tigers a Magic Weekend beating

The powerful prop was left dejected following his side’s 42-12 loss against Warrington Wolves at the weekend.

And defeat against the Tigers the last time the sides met on Good Friday still lingers in the back of his mind.

Amor celebrates his 25th birthday on Saturday and victory would be the perfect present for the Cumbrian and the travelling Wildcats masses.

“We owe them one big time.” he said.

“On a personal note I wasn’t happy with how I played then.

“I think there were quite a lot of us who were pretty poor and we can’t have more than three or four of our players have an off day. We’re not a side which can afford that.

“We’re just very much looking forward to playing there now. We have to lick our wounds, dress ourselves down and rip into training this week and give it them on Saturday.”

On Sunday’s defeat against the Wolves Amor says the whole squad was dejected in the changing rooms post-match.

We’re not happy with that,” he said.

“We need to go away and take a look at ourselves and one or two questions need to be asked among the players, we need to be better than that.”

The 24-year-old says he and his team-mates only have themselves to blame for recent poor performances.

Wakefield have played well in patches - they matched Warrington for an hour on Sunday - but have struggled to string a solid 80-minute performance together.

But the Cumbrian has no excuses and says the players need to raise the game.

“What excuses can you make?” he said.

“There isn’t any other than we, as players, just need to be better.

“We’re halfway through the year and we shouldn’t be using it [a failure to play well for 80 minutes] as an excuse.

“There’s something needs to be done and we are trying to find out exactly what it is.

“It’s one of those things where it’s just down to us players, we need to pay more attention to detail and the things Rich gives us in training.

“At times when we do what he says, like for that hour [against Warrington] we go well.

“It’s when one or two things start going the wrong way, we give them the ball and things like that and that’s what hurts us.”

Like Wakefield, Caslteford go into the game desperately looking for a victory after suffering an embarrassing 70-12 loss at Hull KR.

But head coach Ian Millward has key men returning, and Amor says Wildcats just need to focus on their own game.

He said: “They were missing Rangi and Danny Orr and they’re two massive players.

“We’re not going to look at that, we just need to work as hard as we can and put everything in practice what Rich gives us.”
