Bulls have the belief of rising to the ‘million-pound challenge’

FORMER CASTLEFORD Tigers winger James Clare is confident Bradford Bulls can upset the odds in Saturday’s ‘million-pound match’ at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

The winners will go into next year’s Super League, with the beaten team playing in the Championship.

Bulls, runners-up in the second tier this year, were crushed 48-18 at the elite competition’s bottom club in the Qualifiers last month.

Clare, however, reckons that they have improved since then, despite a makeshift team losing 52-18 to Halifax last weekend.

“We are starting to build that belief,” said Clare. “Each win we’ve got and each performance we’ve put in has added to that belief.

“Obviously, last week was a setback, but, ultimately, we did have one eye on Saturday – even though you shouldn’t do that. With the experience that’s going to come back into the team – people like Adrian Purtell, who is really going to manage the game – I believe we can win it. Hopefully, everyone else believes as well.”

Stand-off Lee Gaskell, who suffered kidney damage in the Qualifiers defeat at Wakefield, made his comeback against Halifax and Clare reckons he will make a difference this weekend.

He said: “It’s great to have him back. He’s the Championship player of the year and any team would have him in their side in a heartbeat.”
