Elston praises Wildcats support and targets Tigers derby sell-out

CHIEF executive James Elston has spoken of his delight at the "superb" supporter backing Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have received so far this season.

Richard Agar's men have averaged well over 1,000 more fans through the Rapid Solicitors Stadium turnstiles compared to the corresponding fixtures last term.

An impressive 8,794 attended Sunday’s game with Huddersfield Giants - compared to 5,436 last season.

And Elston is hoping that impressive backing continues throughout 2012.

"I'm very pleased with the crowd figures," he said.

"The response from the Wakefield public to what we’re trying to do here has been fantastic.

"The 4,000 gold memberships we have is a great base to start from before anyone else even comes through the gates. We’re not standing still, we want these good crowds to continue."

Wildcats also saw increased crowds for the home games against Hull KR and Bradford Bulls compared to 2011.

And, as well as a good gate for the next home match against Catalans Dragons, Elston is hoping the Rapid Solicitors Stadium is a sell-out for the Good Friday derby against Castleford Tigers.

The sides meet for the first of three Super League clashes this season on April 6 and tickets are available from £20 for adults and £12 for juniors and concessions. If a ticket is bought before Tuesday, March 27 supporters can become a silver member for £10 instead of the usual £30, allowing pre-sale savings on all 2012 home games.

Tickets for the derby match, and the next home game against Catalans, can be bought from the Wildcats Retail Outlet in The Ridings, at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium, by calling 01924 201548 or by visiting www.wakefieldwildcats.co.uk.
