Ferguson out to prove Bradford’s credentials

The explosive Scotland second-row is sure to be a key weapon if the Championship club are to win in their crucial Qualifiers game this afternoon.

He started his career at Trinity, who finished bottom of Super League and will be under a growing threat of relegation if they do lose a second successive tie.

Bradford, who retained so much of their quality after suffering demotion themselves last year, are intent on making an immediate return for 2016.

“All the boys here believe we are a Super League team,” he said.

“And I think a lot of other people do as well. It’s up to us as players to get Bradford back up there where we belong.

“It will be tough at Wakefield, though. Knowing a few players over there, it’s a tight-knit club and a lot of people looking from the outside probably see it as a bit of a shambles. But the boys there always work for each other and give 110 per cent so we know it will be a hard game.”

Ferguson, 27, has endured some wretched luck with injuries since moving from Huddersfield Giants to Odsal at the end of 2013.

However, he was back in their side for Sunday’s opening Qualifiers tie, the 42-10 rout of Sheffield Eagles, and hopes to make further impact today.

“I had 10 years at Wakefield coming through the scholarship and academy ranks before getting into the first team,” he recalled.

“It was a good time for me over there and John Kear looked after me, giving me my debut when I was 17.

“When Wakefield went through a bad patch with financial struggles, that’s when I left (for Huddersfield in 2011).

“They were my first club, they will always have a place in my heart and it’s good going back.

“But I’m a Bradford Bulls player now and we need the win this weekend.”
