Former NRL half-back Mason Lino signs for Wakefield Trinity

Wakefield Trinity have bolstered their options at half-back with the signing of former NRL player Mason Lino.

The 26-year-old Samoa international was released by Newcastle Knights at the end of the season after making five appearances for the club in 2020.

Trinity head coach Chris Chester has been keen to recruit a new half-back during the off-season with Danny Brough heading to Bradford Bulls for the 2021 campaign.

Agreeing a renewed contract with Kelepi Tanginoa and signing a new half-back had been top of Chester’s priorities ahead of next season.

Lino made his NRL debut for New Zealand Warriors in August 2015 against North Queensland Cowboys.

He made his international debut in 2016 before leaving the Warriors for Newcastle at the end of the 2018 campaign.

In his first season for the Knights, he made 12 appearances, scored two tries and kicked 33 goals. However, the club opted not to re-sign him next season, paving the way for a move to Wakefield.
