A hat-trick in his debut for Wakefield Trinity Community Trust's physical disability rugby league (PDRL) team was the latest step in Chris Hall's incredible journey back to the rugby league field.

Hall’s life was turned upside down in March 2012 when he suffered catastrophic brain injuries, sustained during a pre-season game for Kippax Knights, that almost ended his life.

Hall was punched by opposition players during the game and later collapsed, having suffered a blood clot on the brain.

He was rushed to hospital where he died twice on the operating table as surgeons battled to save his life. Hall was given a 20 per-cent chance of survival and remained in a critical condition.

He regained consciousness but was then faced with a long recovery in which he had to learn to walk and talk again.

Six years on, he has made huge progress but still suffers from pain, both physically and psychologically, bladder issues, daily headaches and sensitive eyes.

However, Hall, who played at Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity as a youngster, has been determined to get back onto a rugby league field and this has led him to become the head coach of Trinity’s PDRL team, which played its first ever game against Leeds Rhinos three weeks ago. And Hall, also co-captain of the side, completed a superb hat-trick to inspire Trinity to a 44-10 victory over their old rivals.

He now hopes to represent his country and compete in the fledgling sport’s first World Cup, which may take place later this year.

Before then, Hall will have his sights set on Trinity’s next match, against a Warrington Wolves Foundation side on Sunday, May 13.

Among those playing for the Wolves team will be comedian and The Last Leg presenter Adam Hills, pictured below, who posted on Twitter: “May 13. Asics Stadium, Warrington. @WWCLSFoundation vs @WTCommunityRL. The next chapter in @PDRLEngland history. I’m ready. Nearly. Just gotta lose a few pounds. And get a bit quicker.”
