Washbrook, set to face Bradford Bulls tomorrow, joined Trinity in 2012 and has played more than 100 games for the club.

He rose through the ranks with the hometown Airlie Birds, was part of the Hull side that reached the 2006 Grand Final and played in a Challenge Cup final defeat two years later.

But the 29 year-old admitted: “My time with Wakefield has helped me develop massively.

“It has been an invaluable experience.

“It’s been good working with new people in a different city and I have enjoyed my time at Belle Vue.

“It’s great to be coming back to where it all started, though. I’m hoping I can play my best rugby when I return and give something back to the club.

“As soon as I knew Hull wanted me I couldn’t turn it down. I spoke to Lee [Radford] and Motu [Tony] a lot and told them I’d love the chance to go back.”

Head coach Radford, who played alongside Washbrook at Hull for five years, said: “Washy left as a young bloke on the back of what was a couple of difficult seasons for the club after that ‘06 Grand Final.

“He’s coming back an even better bloke, is now more knowledgeable and will be one of the senior players here.

“He was a fantastic pro’ when he left and speaking to everybody at Wakefield, that’s not changed.

“The competition and versatility he’ll add is great, too.”
