Kear calls for former clubs Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Castleford Tigers to consider sharing a new stadium

Kear, who left Wildcats as head coach at the end of last season and who also played for Tigers, says a shared facility is a “no brainer” for the future of both Super League clubs.

Wildcats are hopeful of building a new stadium at Newmarket to replace their current Rapid Solcitors Stadium, while Tigers are hoping to build a new stadium of their own at Glass Houghton.

“I don’t think the area’s big enough for two separate stadiums,” Kear told Code13 Rugby League.

“It should be a bit like Inter Milan and AC Milan. You could have black and amber seats down one stand and red, blue and white seats down the other stand and two standing areas behind each posts. For me it’s a no brainer and it can be done. It’s financially viable I think to be done, and it makes financial sense from resource use as well.”

Wakefield have already dismissed an option for a potential groundshare with Castleford at the Tigers’ proposed site and both clubs are set on building their own new grounds, although Castleford chief executive Richard Wright stated in December that they are still open to a shared facility.
