Mathers: Wildcats need to build on Dragons win with victory over Broncos

FULL-BACK Richard Mathers says last week's victory over Catalans Dragons will count for nothing if Wakefield Wildcats don't back it up with another two points at London Broncos today.

Richard Agar's men will look to secure their first back-to-back successes of Super League XVII against basement side Broncos.

And Mathers, on a season-long loan at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium from local rivals Castleford Tigers, says Wildcats now need to build on their win over Catalans and get some consistency in their game.

"I think it was important that we got a win last weekend just to give us some confidence in what we've been doing," he said.

"We've been coming up with some half decent performances but not getting the wins. We want to build on that now but at the same time not get carried away with ourselves, it's only one win and we've got to string some consistency together."

"We've had quite a tough month with the opponents we've had and we've improved week on week. Improving doesn't necessarily get you the two points every game and it was important that we did. We want to string a few wins together and climb up that table."

London may be propping up the table going into the game but Mathers and his team-mates won't take their hosts lightly. Broncos won their last home game against Castleford and Mathers believes they're mirroring Wakefield in their week-by-week improvements.

"They gave Cas a towling up as well down there so that shows the quality that they've got," he said.

"I think they're very similar to ourselves, they've been improving week on week, they've a fairly new squad like ourselves so it'll be a good challenge. They've got some former internationals that are playing really for them and it's always a challenge going down to London and I expect it to be no different on Saturday."
