The 28-year-old has joined the club on loan from Toronto Wolfpack until the end of the campaign and has signed a two-year permanent deal from 2021.

The Ireland international made his Super League debut with Wakefield in 2012, crossing for seven tries in five appearances before joining Leigh Centurions, where he was just as prolific, scoring 74 times in 81 games.

He also became one of the first players to make an appearance for Toronto, with the transatlantic club formed ahead of the 2017 campaign, scoring 66 tries in 70 outings.

“I’m over the moon to be joining Wakefield, the place where I got handed my Super League debut," said Kay.

“I think the club itself has developed in leaps and bounds since the last time I was there so I’m really looking forward to getting back and getting stuck in.”

Kay will join up with his new teammates on Monday as Wakefield return to training ahead of their return to action against Wigan Warriors on August 9.

Head coach Chris Chester hopes the winger can provide some strong competition for the other wingers in his squad.

“I’m delighted we’ve got Liam at the club,” admitted Chester.

“You only have to look at his prolific record to realise he knows where the try-line is and I think he’ll really push the likes of Tom Johnstone, Ben Jones-Bishop and Lee Kershaw in his position.

“He’s been at the club before, so he obviously knows what we’re about at Wakefield and I’m sure he’s looking forward to starting training with the boys next week.”
