Sio: Wakefield Trinity Wildcats fans can roar us to cup final

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats hooker Michael Sio has called on the fans to make the Leigh Sports Village like Belle Vue for their Challenge Cup clash with Warrington Wolves.

Trinity’s 28-16 victory over Huddersfield Giants helped them to reach their first semi-final since 2008.

The 23-year-old believes that the Wildcats can reach the final but added the squad need to harness the support of the fans to see them over the line.

“The Wakefield fans are a massive boost to us,” he said. “Especially at home because that north stand really makes some noise and we feed off that on the field.

“If they can replicate that noise this weekend and even triple or quadruple it, that would be massive.

“Having the game at a neutral ground will make it difficult for both sides and what we need most is our Wakefield fans to come along and get behind the boys and if they do, we can definitely do it.”

Both sides have beaten the other earlier in the season and will be facing off again in the Super 8s in a matter of weeks.

Sio also feels that despite this being one of Wakefield’s biggest games in recent history, it is important they are in the right frame of mind on the day.

He said: “I think it is going to be a highly emotional game. Wakefield haven’t been in a big game like this since 2007 I’ve been told and I’m expecting a fast but physical game.

“Warrington will come at us with a lot of speed and we need to be aware because they’ll catch us cold if not.

“The fact we’ve already managed to get one over them earlier in the season will give us an edge but the Challenge Cup is a whole new ball game and both sides will need a different mindset.

“I like to treat the big games like any other. I don’t want to get caught up in the emotion too much and I’ll try to approach the game efficiently and do everything I can to be in the best possible mental state,” the hooker said.
